Saying that in the first scene of the history of Alcindor he was reminded of Lessing's Minna v[on] B[arnhelm], complaining of rheumatic toothache, describing the illness and death of his wife, thanking him for volume two of his Gesammelte Schriften and for [Weber's] Der Freÿschütz, commenting on both [and on Der Freischütz at length], thanking him for the Sagen, saying he was up until 2:00 A.M. reading the "Verschwundenen," responding at length to Kind's request for a critique in the Leipziger literarische Zeitung, adding that his own strength lies in knowing the history of both the visual and musical arts, and that his talent lies in presenting it even to the unlearned (only Goethe had both, but only regarding the visual arts), mentioning Raupach's Erdennacht, Traum, ein Märchen [i.e. Das Märchen im Traum], Calderón's Offentliche Geheimnis, Shakespeare's Kaufmann v[on] Venedig, Houwald, Schlegel, Heeren, v. Müller, etc., etc.
